De Gouden Kooi was declared winner of the first Mechelen Award. That is a prize for the best team building activity tailored to the Dijle city. According to the jury, with De Nekker – Escape Walk Experience they bring out the experience of an escape room and introduce participants to the city in a fun and original way.
At the end of last year, Meet in Mechelen, the conference bureau of the city of Mechelen, launched a team building competition. Agencies were encouraged to develop an activity that completely suits Mechelen. Candidates had to use elements that characterize the city such as heritage, characteristic buildings, stories or legends. Collaborations with local tourism partners also earned extra points.
After an initial jury selection, five projects were selected in March that were fully booked and tested in recent months: De Nekker – Escape Walk Experience by De Gouden Kooi, Build’In Mechelen by Perfect +, Mechelen Unboxed by Geoteam, Build The City by EventMosaic and Operation Kabas by Event Masters. The five concepts were assessed by a professional jury and by the people who participated in the team building activities.
Potential
“All these activities bring people together in a playful way and strengthen the bond between colleagues. It is good promotion for Mechelen and that is a good thing for our catering industry and other tourist partners,” says Alderman for Tourism Björn Siffer (Vld-Groen-m+). “Mechelen has put itself firmly on the map in recent years as a destination for corporate tourists. We also see great potential for team building.”
De Nekker – Escape Walk Experience from De Gouden Kooi was ultimately chosen as the winner. They will receive the Mechelen Award 2023, an interview in the trade magazine Experience Magazine and receive a wildcard for the Belgian Event Awards. “We are very proud of this award. It is great that our Escape Walk Experience can contribute to putting Mechelen on the map as the perfect city for team building,” says Jan Gheyle of De Gouden Kooi.
