The suspect who was arrested in the investigation into the shooting death of lawyer Claudia Van Der Stichelen in Sint-Lievens-Houtem is currently being interrogated again by the federal police. This was learned during the man’s defense.
The facts happened on Saturday, October 28, at the lawyer’s home in Eiland street in Sint-Lievens-Houtem. A man presented himself around 1:15 p.m. and shot at the lawyer and her son. The lawyer died of her injuries and her son was seriously injured.
The suspect had left on foot, probably towards Markt in Sint-Lievens-Houtem, according to the police. He was dressed in a green or blue overall or dust jacket and carried a gray or dark-colored backpack. The man was probably between 60 and 65 years old and Flemish-speaking, said the federal police, who had distributed an investigation notice with a robot photo.
The East Flemish public prosecutor’s office confirmed on Wednesday that a suspect had been arrested, but it is not yet clear whether it is the perpetrator. The man was extensively interrogated on Wednesday evening and a search took place at his home in Vlierzele. The suspect was under the guardianship of the lawyer and made negative comments about her on Facebook, but it is not yet clear whether there are elements that indicate his involvement in the facts.
