CD&V, Open VLD and Vooruit join forces in Sint-Pieters-Leeuw and go together as a local party to the municipal elections on October 13, 2024. They do this under the name Sam&n.
CD&V is currently part of the majority in Sint-Pieters-Leeuw. Vooruit and Open VLD are in the opposition. But that does not prevent the three center parties from finding each other. “In recent years, significant investments have been made in an attractive and safe Sint-Pieters-Leeuw where it is pleasant to live. But Sint-Pieters-Leeuw is a very diverse municipality. We notice that we do not reach a number of people or do not reach them sufficiently,” says Wouter De Craen, chairman of CD&V Sint-Pieters-Leeuw. “We want to go for a future project that better reflects the diversity of our municipality and the three parties have quickly agreed with this basic idea. We want to invest in coexistence, well-being and education, but integration, safety and affordable housing will also be important priorities.”
“Our diversity is an asset that we do not use enough today. But demographic and social differences in our various sub-municipalities also bring complex challenges,” says Jean-Jacques Walravens, chairman of Open VLD Sint-Pieters-Leeuw. “A vibrant community life and a flourishing local economy are important. To meet these challenges, we are stronger if we join forces.”
“An important point of attention will certainly be tackling the poverty that Sint-Pieters-Leeuw is also confronted with. This is not only about money but also about energy poverty or opportunities in education,” says Guy Jonville, chairman of Vooruit Sint-Pieters-Leeuw.
In addition to a number of well-known and experienced local faces, the new Sam&n list will also provide room for young committed talents who want to further commit themselves to Sint-Pieters-Leeuw. There will be open program days and brainstorming sessions where all interested parties are welcome. In the coming months, Sam&n wants to develop concrete actions step by step.
