Several Ajax supporter groups made a striking appeal on Instagram after the unrest that arose in the stands of the Johan Cruijff ArenA last Saturday over a number of Palestinian flags. Both the F-Side as the group’s account Ultras Amsterdam calls on the fanatical supporters not to bring flags of either Israel or Palestine to the Johan Cruijff ArenA on Thursday evening, when Brighton & Hove Albion visits in the Europa League.

Although Ajax managed to win against Heerenveen for the second time in a row under new coach John van ‘t Schip, during and after the match there was also a lot about the unrest that arose in the stands among the fanatical supporters of the Amsterdam team. At least two Palestinian flags had been hung, while Ajax supporters traditionally identify with Israel and even give themselves the nickname ‘Jews’.

Even during the match, the flags led to some of the supporters in the fanatic sections fighting with each other in the stands. The outcome was that the group Ultras Amsterdam according to the X account Football Ultras left the stadium before the final whistle ‘and took all the atmospheric items with him’.

On Wednesday, a day before the match with Brighton, both F-Side and Ultras Amsterdam are calling on fans not to bring flags of countries ‘where a war is going on or with which a political statement is being conveyed’ to the ArenA. Instead, it is advocated to bring flags depicting the club and/or the city of Amsterdam.
