Alphen – On Saturday, November 11, Parkvilla organizes an evening program with a Moluccan buffet (optional), the film ‘Lagu Lagu’ and a live performance by Jessica Manuputty.

Jessica is making a name for herself as a singer in Dutch jazz, soul and pop music. She played with Jett Rebel, Barry Hay, the Metropole Orchestra, in a sold-out Paradiso and at well-known festivals such as Pinkpop and Lowlands.
To honor her ancestors and not to forget the injustice done to them, Jessica Manuputty devotes herself to ‘lagu lagu’ in the commemoration year. These traditional Moluccan songs are about homesickness for the Moluccas and Ambon. Jessica makes every effort to make the music sound traditional and also wants to add her own ideas and those of her musicians. In this way she makes a unique record with producer Jett Rebel.

In 2021 it will be 70 years since Moluccan KNIL soldiers and their families were shipped to the Netherlands by boat. The government had them wait for developments in the new state of Indonesia before returning to their beloved Moluccas. However, a return never happened. The Moluccan musician Piet Loppies, grandfather of Jessica Manuputty, is one of the KNIL soldiers who arrived at the Amsterdam Javakade in 1951.
