Is Jarod D. accountable or not? We have been waiting for more than two and a half years for the answer to that question. Jarod D. (21) has been in jail since March last year on suspicion of the murder of Leander Quintyn (32). A murder without a motive in which the psychiatric report, which has been pending for more than two and a half years, should provide clarity. After the meeting of the Bruges council chamber on Tuesday morning, it turned out that the morality reports had been added to the file. A final straight line to the final report.
March 6, 2021, 10:50 PM. Leander Quintyn (32) was stabbed on a public road in the center of Tielt. The victim was on his way home when he suddenly suffered several stab wounds. The man in his thirties was quickly taken to hospital, but died from his injuries.
Random murder
It soon turned out to be a random murder, because the perpetrator and victim did not know each other at all. The investigators immediately launched a whole investigation, but it was Jarod D. himself who talked his way out of it. A third party had to hear the whole story and immediately contacted the police. On April 26, 2021, the police were finally able to catch and arrest the man in his twenties. Jarod D. confessed the facts, but his motive remains a matter of speculation to this day.
Psychiatric report
The psychiatric report should provide more clarity, but more than two and a half years after the facts, that report is still not complete. Although there will probably be a breakthrough soon, because the morality reports – a final step – have now been added to the file. And that report is of great importance, because on the basis of it a decision can be made about accountability.
The Bruges council chamber decided on Tuesday morning to extend the young man’s detention by two months. It previously appeared that Jarod D. does have an explanation for the fact that he walked around with a knife. “But he certainly did not have a murder plan,” Master Huysentruyt said earlier. “It happened on a whim.”
