BREDA – The Gelato Festival Challenge takes place today in Breda. During this competition, ice cream makers compete for the title of ‘best ice cream maker in the Netherlands’. In addition to the title, the winner will immediately advance to the European final and possibly also the world championship in 2024.
It’s not really nice weather for an ice cream. But today, ice cream is being made en masse at Curio on Frankenthalerstraat. The Gelato Festival Challenge of Carpigiani Ambachtelijk Benelux takes place there: a competition in which the best ice cream maker in the Netherlands is sought. The almost 30 finalists come from almost all over the country: from Volendam to Utrecht, from Den Bosch to Helmond.

During the Gelato Festival Challenge, participants try to convince an international jury with original ice cream recipes and presentations. They produce their own pasteurized mix on site, season it, garnish and present it. The jury judges based on taste (40 percent), structure (30 percent), creativity (20 percent), verbal and aesthetic presentation (10 percent). In addition to the title, the winner immediately advances to the European final and possibly also the world championship in 2024. National champions compete against each other with the tastiest ice creams in their country.
Today the competition is being managed by students from vocational trainer Curio. The competition takes place at Curio on Frankenthalerstraat.
