The local emergency services were informed of the collision with the animals around 12:50 am, after which the railway line was immediately closed. Two horses were found dead along the railway line. In a meadow on the edge of the track, the emergency services found several ‘runaway’ horses. The animals were probably startled by wild boars.
One horse was missing
The owner of the horses, riding school owner Philipp Arndt, was soon found. With the help of others, he managed to capture the remaining seven horses and bring them to safety, but one horse was still missing. It wasn’t until daylight on Sunday morning that emergency services found the third missing horse dead in a bush.
The federal police started an investigation into the dangerous disruption to train traffic.
