NU.nl, BNR and Omroep Gelderland won prizes at the presentation of the Podcast Awards. De Volkskrant, NRC and NTR also received awards.
NU.nl was awarded for the podcast The Secret of Mallorca, about the Carlo Heuvelman case. Omroep Gelderland won in the ‘best host’ category for the podcast Niet van de Wereld by journalist Maarten Dallinga.
The secret of Mallorca was made by NU.nl crime reporter Joris Peters. In the nine-part series, Peters talks to witnesses, relatives and lawyers about Heuvelman’s death. The 27-year-old man was involved in a fight in Mallorca in the summer of 2021. He died from his injuries. The appeal in the case will start soon.
In Niet van de Wereld, Maarten Dallinga explores the question of what it is like to be a strict Christian in a society that is becoming increasingly secular. Dallinga spoke with various Reformed Christians in the Bible Belt for his five-part series. It is the second time that Dallinga has won a Podcast Award. He was previously awarded for his series Entangled, about the taboo on suicide.
Other awards
BNR Nieuwsradio’s copy won the award for best Dutch podcast of 2023 on Monday evening. In the podcast, crime journalist Wouter Laumans and criminal lawyer Christian Flokstra talk to lawyers and prosecutors about controversial criminal cases. The audience award went to the Homicide podcast. Each episode of Napleiten focuses on one criminal trial.
De Volkskrant won a prize in the Interview category for the series De Liefde van Nu by Corine Koole. In the series she talks about modern forms of relationships. NRC won in the Daily podcast category, ahead of NRC Today. In the podcast, three journalists delve into one important topic for twenty minutes. NTR won a prize in the Narrative category for the series The stolen paintings by Jopie Huisman.
