Standard is kicking itself after victories against Club and Anderlecht, KVM right after dismissal of Defour with a late 1-1

--

Was the dismissal of Steven Defour what it took to shake everyone up at KV Mechelen? Then having to go to Sclessin was no gift either, since Standard had defeated Club Brugge and Anderlecht in their previous home matches.

After Defour’s dismissal, good friend Vanderbiest certainly did not completely change things, but with Bafdili in his team, the interim coach still had one big surprise in store. There were also a few changes at Standard, although the Rouches mainly wanted to confirm what they had shown in the home matches against Club and Anderlecht.

Kawabe scores for Standard

The study round still seemed to be in full swing, until Standard suddenly got a free kick in a not without danger spot. Kawabe did the most with it: a curl nicely over the wall and it was 1-0. With the deficit on the board, KV Mechelen came out of its shell a bit. Lauberbach incomprehensibly missed Mrabti’s cross.

Yet another miss this season for the German, who was subsequently involved in the interplay with Mrabti and the running back Schoofs servant. Bodart’s parade on the KVM captain’s shot was necessary. Just before half time, Kanga caused excitement on the other side after a confusing phase, Coucke did enough.

No listless KV Mechelen

After the break we mainly saw the Mechelen threat for a long time. Although not with many clear-cut chances, the Rouches had to be on the lookout for an equalizer given the score. It didn’t seem like it would happen anymore, but it did happen in the end: first Bodart intervened, Schoofs scored the 1-1.
