The first sneak pub crawl of ten Eeklose catering establishments took place boenk with lots of (dressed up) people and atmosphere. It is already certain that the catering industry will continue to be creepy next year.

The Eeklose catering industry at its best: De Max, Bateau Bleu, De Luxor, Den Eiktak, De Kabouter, De Ramblas, Het Burgerhuis, Markt 28, Ledeganck and De Corner organized a pub crawl together on Halloween. Participants could start and end where they wanted and were given something to browse in every case. And that for ten euros, or one euro per stop.

Three times more people than expected

It was fifteen years ago that so many Eeklose catering establishments came out together, and that made something of a stir in the city. “We had been satisfied with a hundred participants in advance: in the end we got 320,” say Sylvie Van den Neste of De Max and Elsie De Cocq of Bateau Bleu. “80 percent were also dressed up, which added to the atmosphere, friendliness and conviviality. Everyone was very enthusiastic.”

Many children chuckled

It clearly leaves you wanting more, say Sylvie and Elsie. “We’ll do Halloween again next year: that’s for sure. But after the success, we are already looking at other activities. Easter, for example, is also a good opportunity to join forces.” The organization is not blind to some points of interest. “We actually organized the sneak pub crawl as an event for adults, but a surprising number of children participated. We misjudged this and will certainly take it into account in the future. Ten is also the maximum number of cafes that can participate to keep it all walkable for everyone.”

And the winner is…

Anyone who collected a full stamp card and therefore passed by every participating business had a chance to win a nice extra. An innocent hand decided on Saturday evening that the main prize – a Ballonvaarten Madou flight for two people – will go to Maxim De Groote.
