Dog school De Trouwe Waakhond is celebrating its fiftieth anniversary and was honored in the Jeneverhuis. “With 142 members, we are still a well-functioning association in 2023,” says chairman Veerle Vanhecke (53).
“The story of our dog school actually started 53 years ago,” Veerle continues. “But because no legal documents from those early years were available, we could not count them towards our royal title.”
“Owners and their dogs can come to us for the disciplines of handling and obedience. We always place the dog center stage. We train dog and owner as a solid team, so that they can be together for the rest of their lives and fewer dogs end up in shelters. In addition, at De Trouwe Waakhond we firmly believe in inclusion. People with a physical or mental disability are also always very welcome with us.”
“We are grateful to the city of Eeklo for the recognition and honoring of our dog school and hope to work together for many years to come on the well-being of dogs and their owners,” concludes Veerle Vanhecke enthusiastically.
