The annual lucrative music competition the Grand Prix of the Netherlands is starting again. This time it is accompanied by groundbreaking collaborations for emerging artists. The competition is widely regarded as a springboard for musical talent. Registration for the 36th edition started on November 1.
After a successful and renewed edition in 2022-2023, with Mentos as main sponsor, the oldest independent music competition for live talent is once again ready to support a new generation of musical talents in their journey to the top. Collaborations have been established for the upcoming edition that significantly increase the opportunities for emerging artists. For more than 40 years, the Grand Prix of the Netherlands has been a true institution for musicians, the music industry and the public. This institute has paved the way for some of the most prominent Dutch talents, including Brainpower, Typhoon, Junkie XL and Eefje de Visser. The Grand Prix is the missing link between the overwhelming online music industry and the Dutch offline music venues, which are essential for the growth of musicians.
Artists can register for the upcoming edition from November 1 to December 20. Just like last year, 30 talented artists will have the opportunity to record their own mix and shine in beautiful live recordings in the famous Wisseloord studios in Hilversum. These artists receive countless PR opportunities to introduce themselves to a new audience and can count on new opportunities, valuable contacts and performances. The finalists and semi-finalists will have the opportunity to show their talent during the live shows. The semi-finals will take place on Friday, May 3 and Saturday, May 18, 2024 in TivoliVredenburg. The 4 best acts from these semi-finals will compete against each other in the grand final that will take place on Saturday, June 8 in TivoliVredenburg.
In the coming years, the Grand Prix of the Netherlands wants to help even more artists break through. A strong coalition of musical drivers, advocates, coaches and visionaries is being created, under the banner of MGPNL, to further guide Dutch musicians on their path to musical inspiration and cultural added value. Concrete and structural collaborations with venues and programmers in the Netherlands are an integral part of this vision. In addition, MGPNL joins forces with Dutch pop umbrella organizations for the selection that promote talent in the provinces of the Netherlands. To create a seamless transition between the digital and physical music worlds, MGPNL, in collaboration with Sounders Music, has developed an innovative digital platform and app for the registration and selection process. This tool generated more than 200,000 votes for participating artists last season.
The Grand Prix of the Netherlands was founded in 1983 and has been an important platform for emerging musicians and artists in the Netherlands for over forty years. It offers a valuable opportunity to break into the music industry and offers support on multiple levels. From live performances to PR opportunities and networking opportunities.
