GHENT

A cozy pop-up shop has recently been opened in the center of Ghent, where there used to be a flea shop. Until the end of the year you can find wooden candlesticks, coasters, cake trays, high-quality speakers and televisions here.

It’s cold and rainy outside, but it’s warm and cozy in the new pop-up in Gebroeders Vandeveldestraat. There is a fire burning in the back. At the front is a cupboard with wooden coasters, cake trays and speakers. There are wooden candlesticks on the table, behind it a high-quality television.”

“Until a year ago, this was a flea shop,” says Arthur Van de Loock about the elegant building. “When the owner heard that we wanted to open a pop-up here, he was very pleased.” (Read more below the photo)

We, that is Van de Loock and Pieter-Jan Van Wesepoel, a childhood friend. Van de Loock’s father has had a Bang & Olufsen store in Sint-Martens-Latem for more than thirty years and in Knokke for ten years. Van Wesepoel runs Fontein & Bova, a company that makes custom furniture and publishes its own collections.

“They are very well known for their tables and chairs,” says Van de Loock. “They recently released a collection of tableware: handmade coasters, cake dishes, trays and candlesticks made of walnut, oak or black oak.” They are carefully displayed in the pop-up, together with Bang & Olufsen speakers and televisions.

The televisions with built-in speakers can be personalized. You can choose both the colors and the metals. The lighting is from Trizo 21, the handmade tapestries by Delphine Cobbaert. You can come by to admire it all until December 31. The pop-up is open Wednesday to Saturday (and on shopping Sunday) from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
