BORGER – More than 400 judokas competed for medals on seven competition mats at the Hunebed tournament in Borger. Judo team Akkermans from Wommels traveled to Drenthe with 19 judokas to participate in this tournament.

Maddy Bosma (Wommels), Jason Bijlsma (Mantgum), Mirthe Hartman (Sexbierum) and Marc Veenstra (Kollumerzwaag) became champions in their class and were allowed to take home the gold. The silver went to Jarno Veenstra (Kollumerzwaag), Olaf van der Heide (Pingjum), Frans de Boer (Reduzum), May de Boer (Harlingen) and Jurre Steenge (Gorredijk).

After a long recovery period from a back operation, Sanne Hartman (Sexbierum) was finally allowed to take to the tatami again in the under-18 class, against everyone’s expectations. She won three of the five matches and proudly received the bronze. Tygo Beverlo (Harlingen) also managed to win a nice bronze medal.

Brecht, Fay, Auke, Jelco, Margje, Maurits, Thys and Liewe showed neat judo, unfortunately this was not enough for a medal.
