With three scoring former Eredivisie strikers, it was a small Dutch party on Wednesday evening when Rangers FC visited Dundee FC. Danilo, Sam Lammers and Cyriel Dessers were accurate. The big question is: who will coach Philipp Clement field next?

Against Dundee, Clement chose to start with Danilo at striker, put Lammers on ten and bring on Dessers as a substitute. Both the Brazilian and the Dutchman left the field with a goal and an assist. But fifteen minutes was enough for Dessers to score his goal again.

‘Dessers and Lammers provide fireworks for Rangers’, was the headline Scottish Sun. The two attackers have made a mediocre impression for Rangers so far. “Lammers – yes, Sam Lammers – scored a quite stunning third goal, before Dessers – yes, Cyriel Dessers – also scored the fourth of the evening,” wrote TheSun with some sense of irony.

There were also compliments for Danilo. BBC analyst Neil McCann was very enthusiastic about the performance of the former striker of FC Twente, Feyenoord and Ajax. ‘He’s a really good find from Rangers. He has shown that he is agile and has speed. And he has an eye for where to walk. He could be very successful here, but still needs to work on his finishing. He could have made five or six tonight.’

World class Lammers
His colleague Michael Stewart was particularly impressed by Lammers’ goal. ‘What a sensational goal that was. That is truly world class. He acts quickly, has good control and shoots brilliantly. Even with three goalkeepers on target they couldn’t have kept him.’

With Lammers on ten, decisions still have to be made about the striker position. Former Celtic defender Charlie Mulgrew knows who he would field. ‘I would least like to play against Danilo, without a doubt. He likes to play in the back of the opponent and thus makes himself elusive. At Dessers everything seems a bit cumbersome and slow. As if his sense of the ball is not quite right. So I would definitely go for Danilo.”
