The location in Terneuzen is the second largest. There are four factories on the Dow site, the largest of which is now closing. In total, around 450 people work at Trinseo Terneuzen. “We could already get used to the idea and we are getting used to it. But now it is a harsh reality,” says director Louis Oostvogels in response to the closure.

The employees are still busy with work. “Everyone is focused and everyone is now busy taking the factory out of operation. We started the preparations a few days ago. People are very busy now,” says the director.

It will take another five to six weeks until all work around the company is completed. “It is now extra special because you are no longer going to start up this company. It must be secured section by section, chemicals must be released and energy must be extracted from the process. It all has to be done very precisely. There is a long preparation for this. preceded.”

The director already indicated in August that the closure is inevitable. “On the one hand, you see a decrease in demand for plastics and latex, and an increase in the construction of factories, especially in Asia, causing a drop in the price of the products.” The factory supplies plastics for packaging, refrigerators and the automotive industry.

The closure of the factory is part of a global operation to cut costs.
