Those who are entitled to a premium or discount will automatically receive this in three cases within proactive services.

The City of Ghent has won the UserCentriCities award for its proactive services. Ghent residents who are entitled to a premium or discount are already automatically granted in three cases. This concerns, for example, free garbage bags or a discount in childcare.

The UserCentriCities award is given to European cities for their achievements in providing user-friendly services. The City of Ghent is rewarded for its proactive service in three projects: the UiTPAS at a discounted rate, discounts within urban education and childcare for parents on a living wage or low income, and the distribution of free garbage bags.

The proactive service project provides a great simplification for often vulnerable Ghent residents, as they no longer have to provide the necessary certificates or evidence themselves. The City itself will search linked government sources. A new section on free registration and applying for a reduced rate within the LEZ is planned for the end of this summer.

This award is a nice recognition for the important pioneering work that the City has delivered. We give the people of Ghent what they are entitled to and that makes a big difference, especially for the most vulnerable. For example, we see that four times more parents now receive a discount in the Ghent day care centers.
