Theater Magique is the first in Flanders to play ‘Camping Carrousel’, a play by author Peter De Kemel (57). The Ekers company has been around for less than a year and is already on its third production. Even now it’s a happy game.
André (Staf Jennes) and his wife Agnes (Frieda Sysmans) know the campsite and its history like the back of their hand. André is the good guy and Agnes is good at putting things into perspective. Everyone likes to visit André and so he is involved in all kinds of situations, much to the chagrin of his wife. Author Peter De Kemel is not his first piece with his latest piece ‘Camping Carrousel’. He has been writing all his life. At the age of twelve he made his first own work. He performed it with children from his neighborhood. As a 16-year-old, he went to his village of Astene (East Flanders) to look for people who wanted to start a theater association with him. As a pioneer, Peter managed to keep ‘Village Theater Astene’ above the baptismal font within a year.
Peter De Kemel not only writes plays, he is also a screenwriter. On Eclips TV, he runs ‘Easter’, a story about a naive village pastor in East Flanders. Other film titles include ‘Ten huize Goedgebuer’ and ‘On the banks of the Leie’.
Jimmy Rubbens of Theater Magique was the first to respond to the author’s call to perform his latest play. Jimmy Rubbens and Hilda Hofman are directing. Peter De Kemel attends the premiere on Friday 2 June. (mawo)
