The district council of Deurne unanimously asks that the Agency for Roads and Traffic take immediate action on the Boterlaanbaan and Van Strydoncklaan. There, an experienced motorcyclist suffered life-threatening injuries last weekend due to the poor condition of the road surface. “The state of the roads managed by AWV often leaves much to be desired,” it sounds.

The Boterlaarbaan and Van Strydoncklaan in Deurne are regional roads, which means that they fall under the management of the Flemish Agency for Roads and Traffic (AWV). Both streets, which merge into each other, have been in a terrible state for months. At the beginning of this month, some repairs to the road surface were carried out, but not everywhere.
The 30-year-old motorcyclist crashed heavily last weekend, as a result of the potholes in the road surface. The district of Deurne now wants something to be done about this urgently.
The entire district council of Deurne wants AWV to take its responsibility and immediately carry out repairs to the road surface. “We can only conclude that the emergency repairs of the past few weeks have been insufficiently or incorrectly carried out,” the joint letter reads. “Waiting until the reconstruction in 2026 to address this situation is out of the question. AWV must do what is necessary to fully restore the road.”
The district council goes one step further and states that the general state of roads in the management of AWV often leaves much to be desired and that repairs often take an extremely long time to arrive. And so the council members ask that AWV take its responsibilities seriously.
