The PlayStation VR2 headset is slated for release sometime next year and a number of games have already been announced for the revamped VR platform, including heavy hitters such as Horizon: Call of the Mountain and Resident Evil 8: Village. However, if it were up to Shuhei Yoshida, the indie studios are taking the biggest risks with PlayStation VR2.

The former Sony CEO – who currently holds a position as PlayStation head of independent developer initiative – told this during GI Live 2022. According to Yoshida, the aforementioned major titles are ‘great’, but that especially the indie developers have actually been waiting for the next one. VR boom’.

He refers, among other things, to Tetsuya Mizugichi, who was responsible for games such as Rez and Tetris Effect and who has shown an interest in developing for PlayStation VR2.

“There are big games like Horizon: Call of the Mountain and Resident Evil Village and yes, they’re amazing, but it’s the indies, in my mind, that really take the risk because they want to make games on VR.”
