Are the letters on a website less legible? Make them smaller or larger on a Windows PC or Mac by zooming in or out.

Website readability

Sometimes the text on a site is not easy to read. The letters are too small or much too large. It is then useful to zoom in or out on the website. This can be done with the mouse wheel or with a key combination. This way you can quickly make the letters larger or smaller on the site that is open. This trick works in all browsers on the PC: Firefox, Edge, Chrome and Safari. Please note: if you restart the browser, the letters will return to their old size.

Zoom in and zoom out with the mouse

You use the wheel on the mouse to scroll up and down. But you can also zoom in and out with it. It works like this:

  • Open a website in the browser.
  • On the keyboard, press and hold the Ctrl key (Windows) or Cmd key (Mac).
  • Scroll the mouse wheel up to zoom in or scroll the mouse wheel down to zoom out.

Zoom in and zoom out with keyboard

Want to quickly make letters larger or smaller? This can be done with a key combination:

  • Open a website in the browser.
  • On the keyboard, press and hold the Ctrl key (Windows) or Cmd key (Mac).
  • Press the plus sign to zoom in or press the minus sign to zoom out. Do this just as often until the website is the right size.
  • Release the Ctrl key again.
