Netflix has the new political drama series Death by Lightning announced. Matthew Macfadyen (Succession) and Michael Shannon (The Flash) play the leading roles. Executive producers are David Benioff and DB Weiss, the duo behind it Game of Thrones.

Meanwhile, five years ago, David Benioff and DB Weiss signed a contract with Netflix. It was a contract worth around $200 million, under which the duo would make several series and films for the streaming service. The next project is Death by Lightningabout which we have now learned the first information.

Death by Lightning

Death by Lightning is a political drama series based on the book Destiny of the Republic by Candice Millard from 2011. The story is described as a “true story that is stranger than fiction”. We follow the 20th President of the United States, James Garfield and his biggest fan Charles Guiteau, who eventually kills him.

The role of President James Garfield will be played by Michael Shannon (General Zod from The Flash), while Matthew Macfadyen (Tom from Succession) takes on the role of Charles Guiteau. For the time being, they are the only actors known for the series. It is directed by Matt Ross, who previously 28 Hotel Rooms, Captain Fantastic and Gas lit directed. Mike Makowsky (Bad Education) will be the showrunner. David Benioff, DB Weiss and Bernie Caulfield are executive producers. They were already working on it together Game of Thrones and 3 Body Problemwhich will be released on Netflix in March.

It is not yet known when we will Death by Lightning can expect on Netflix.
