From next week, PlayStation consoles will no longer be able to post on X, the former Twitter. Previously, Xbox, Microsoft’s console, also stopped links to the platform.

The purpose of the ‘share’ button on PlayStation 4 and 5 consoles is to provide a quick way to share screenshots and clips of your gaming experience with friends. This will no longer be possible via Twitter/X. Sony itself reports that the integration will be discontinued from next week, November 13, 2023. You will no longer be able to surf to X via the consoles.

Sony does not say why it is removing that integration, but it is likely that it has to do with the increased price of the X API. Since Elon Musk took over the social medium last year, he has made many adjustments, including raising prices for third parties who want to use Twitter’s API, for example to let console players post their screenshots.

Sony is therefore not the first to cancel its integration. Microsoft previously did the same for its Xbox consoles, and a roleplaying game like World of Warcraft no longer has an X integration.
