The seven-time world champion realizes that he can forget his eighth title this season. The title will almost certainly go to Max Verstappen (Red Bull), just like last year.

Hamilton is driving more than ever in the lee, because Mercedes has not built the fastest car for the first time in years. Hamilton is therefore looking beyond 2022.

“I think I will always stay with Mercedes. I think it’s great that we have had such a long collaboration and I feel that we are working on a lot of positive things. There is still a lot to achieve and I want to be part of that to finish.”

Hamilton certainly sees it as his mission to become world champion for the eighth time. “Because no rider has ever achieved that, I want to try.”

“It’s definitely a challenge. For me it will feel like it’s my first world title, because that’s how I approach it. That feeling of winning is unique,” said the Briton, who holds the record for seven world titles together with Michael Schumacher.

Hamilton won 103 Grands Prix in his career and also took pole position 103 times. Those are numbers that no other rider can match.
