Vincent Mannaert looks back on the transfer of Charles De Ketelaere from Club Brugge to AC Milan

Club Brugge has had a new record for a few weeks now. The Belgian champion sold Charles De Ketelaere for no less than 32 million euros to AC Milan. Although the bar could just as well have been set at 40 million euros.

For the sake of completeness: the transfer fee for Charles De Ketelaere can rise to 35 million euros via a bonus system. The youth product of blue-black is thus at the very top when it comes to most expensive outgoing transfers.

“Leeds United offered forty million euros for Charles,” said Vincent Mannaert without batting an eyelid MIDMIDPodcast. “It is not that De Ketelaere was not interested, but at that time his preference was for AC Milan.”

Any problem: i Rossoneria were a little less eager to come up with extra millions. “I never really thought we wouldn’t come to an agreement. In the end, it turned out that we got out relatively quickly.”

“At such moments there are simply three parties”, concludes the general manager of Club Brugge. “Charles understood that Milan initially offered too little. Leeds were willing to pay more, but we also respected the choice of our player.”
