Club Brugge made a lot of impressive transfers this season, but in recent years it also made a lot of expensive transfers. The Bruggelings grabbed next to a Dutch defender more than a year ago. He moved to Manchester United this summer.
Manchester United paid Feyenoord 15 million euros this summer to bring Tyrell Malacia to Old Trafford. The Dutch left back is doing surprisingly well and is one of the bright spots of the start of the season. Malacia is a fixed value in Erik ten Hag’s team.
Club Brugge will be disappointed, because it pushed hard for Malacia in the summer of 2021. It offered 7 million euros, but Feyenoord then demanded 12 million euros. Malacia spoke in Voetbal International about that missed transfer to the Bruggelings.
“Then I could and wanted to go to Club Brugge. That did not go through and I resigned myself to that. But at home I did say to my family and friends: ‘After this season I will leave Feyenoord.’ Then it is nice if that is possible after a great year. You could now say that it is good that I did not go to Bruges then. I therefore believe that everything in life happens for a reason,” said the Manchester player United. This summer, Club Brugge managed to win with a Dutch left wing player by taking Björn Meijer away from FC Groningen for 6 million euros. In the meantime, the latter became a Dutch U23 international.
