Football icon Ronaldinho comes to Belgium as an eye-catcher during the duel between AA Gent and Standard: “I am looking forward to it”

The Ghelamco Arena in Ghent is the setting for the first Circus Cup. “Former World Footballer of the Year Ronaldinho puts on his football boots again for the occasion and plays with one of the teams for about 20 minutes in each half,” it sounds. The competition is an initiative of Circus, which sponsors both KAA Gent and Standard. The casino and sports betting brand wants to be more than a financial investor: Circus wants to help Belgian sport to grow to an international level.

“Through our partnerships in the Belgian sports world, we want to guide clubs in their many challenges and thus help them grow. This match will be a unique experience for both the players and fans of the Buffalos and Rouches, which will hopefully enhance their sense of pride and commitment to their club. ‘Pleasure’ is the basis for the experience of this Circus Cup. And who better than Ronaldinho, the face of Circus, to make this event a great evening”, said Emmanuel Mewissen, CEO of the Ardent Group, where Circus is a brand of the entertainment branch Gaming1.

KAA Gent and Standard are also happy

“The Circus Cup is a premiere for the city of Ghent, because thanks to Circus we can receive Ronaldinho, an icon of Brazilian football and former world champion, in our Ghelamco Arena. Fans can expect even more surprises. It will be an evening not to be missed for any football fan,” says Tyas Kastelijn, commercial manager at KAA Gent.

“When our partner Circus presented us with this fantastic project with one of the greatest players in football history, the choice was quickly made to participate in this fantastic adventure. We can’t wait to be there on September 21 and experience this moment of joy and pride for our club, our team and our supporters,” said Benjamin Mignot, Commercial Director of Standard de Liège.

“I look forward”

Ronaldinho, the face of Circus, is also enthusiastic: “In my career I have never played in Belgium or against a Belgian club. Twenty years ago I was there at the World Cup in Japan in the eighth final against the Red Devils. So I’m looking forward to meeting the Belgian fans. The Circus Cup will be a special event and we will do everything we can to give the supporters a great evening.”

Football fans and fans of both teams can attend the match for free on September 21, at 7.30 pm in the Ghelamco Arena in Ghent. Tickets are available at
