About a year ago, Club Brugge completed the transfer of Tajon Buchanan. The Canadian winger would eventually join Blauw-Zwart only six months later, but immediately grew into a strong holder. The current year, however, did not bring him much pleasure.

After Club managed to get Buchanan to sign a long-term contract, they first let him finish the season on loan at New England Revolution. A good choice, because with that club the overall victory in the Eastern Conference of the MLS was seized. The title was ultimately not in it, but the Canadian was able to descend to Jan Breydel with sufficient confidence. It didn’t take long before he had a permanent base place.

But this season, the Canadian international has not played yet. Due to a muscle injury that he sustained in the run-up to the Supercup against Genk, Buchanan has been sidelined so far and he has never made the match selection of coach Carl Hoefkens. The next matches also seem to come too early. Hoefkens was therefore asked last week about the return of the wing player. “As quickly as possible, without forcing things. The intention is to get him completely fit first,” the trainer responded to his press chat.

Now, however, there would be light at the end of the tunnel. According to the Canadian medium TSN Blauw-Zwart is working closely with the medical staff of the Canadian Football Association on a plan to get Buchanan completely fit again. At the end of September, the Canadians will gather one last time in the run-up to the World Cup and the intention would be that the wing player would simply report to the national team. In the best case scenario, he has already made minutes at Club. While it is not yet clear when Buchanan will make his return to the squad, there is said to be enough positivity that the plan will work.
