It has been in the air for a while and is now official: McLaren has announced the arrival of top talent Oscar Piastri. The Australian F2 champion becomes a teammate of Lando Norris at the British racing stable. Last month, Piastri was announced as a new pilot by Alpine, but he subsequently debunked that message on social media.

The soap opera around Oscar Piastri started exactly one month ago. Alpine announced on Twitter the arrival of top talent Oscar Piastri. The Australian was already a test driver at the French stable and was promoted.

But that was beyond Piastri himself. With an unmistakable tweet, he denied an agreement with Alpine. In fact, the F1 circus pits were buzzing with rumors that he would already have a preliminary agreement with McLaren.

That agreement, which had been in the air for weeks, was also confirmed on Friday. Piastri will sign with McLaren for two years and will be a teammate of Lando Norris next season. At the British racing stable he succeeds Daniel Ricciardo, who is now in the picture as a reserve driver at Mercedes.
