With Maryna Zanevska, the penultimate Belgian single player dies at the US Open. Our compatriot was no match for Veronika Koedermetova, the number 18 in the world. She lost after 2 short sets: 6-2 and 6-3.
Already in her first serve game, Maryna Zanevska (WTA-97) knew she was going to face a difficult match against Koedermetova. The Russian immediately went through the service of our compatriot, who had to chase the whole game.
Zanevska was able to cling to 4-2, but she could no longer keep up with her opponent’s pace. Koedermetova steamed on to win the set.
Also in set 2, the Belgian was no match for the 18th seed. The Russian checked the match and sent Zanevska home after an hour and a half of tennis. Alison Van Uytvanck thus becomes the only active Belgian in singles at the US Open.
Zanevska: “She served very well at the key moments”
“I just wasn’t good enough today,” Zanevska said after the match. “It was difficult to find the right balance between being passive and aggressive. I didn’t find my consistency. Koedermetova also served very well, especially at the key moments.”
“She kept putting pressure on me with her serve. It was difficult for me to find the answers. After Wimbledon I gained some confidence on clay, I only prepared two weeks on hard court for this US Open, but I made the best of it. “
