Hein Vanhaezebrouck will retire from KAA Gent after this season. His contract will not be extended and the question is where (and whether) the coach will continue to work. In recent days, a rumor has circulated that Club Brugge is interested.
After the match against Westerlo, Vanhaezebrouck was gently grilled by the interviewer from Eleven/DAZN. He wanted to know whether it was true that he had already spoken to “an influential man at a blue-black club”.
He was of course referring to Bart Verhaeghe, owner and chairman of Club Brugge. According to rumors, the two had already discussed the position of technical director.
The names of Francky Dury and Hugo Broos were previously released for this, but little has been heard about it since. Club wants to complete the structure as quickly as possible and a new technical director is desperately needed.
Vanhaezebrouck responded in his typical way with a brilliant answer. “Denderleeuw! That’s blue-black, I think,” he said with a wink. “Timmy Simons can come here and I can go there. We can exchange.”
All joking aside. Vanhaezebrouck will only say anything about his future after the last match of the season. Until then, he wants to keep the peace.
