The Paris Grand Slam tournament is one of the most important judo tournaments of the year after the championships. Moreover, less than six months is an important indicator (and qualifying moment) for the Olympic Games.

Casse was not given his place in the final. Things went quite smoothly against the Jamaican Max Stewart, but in his next three matches the Belgian number 1 always had to work overtime.

This also happened against Somon Machmadbekov in the semi-finals. The Tajik suffered a few too many punishments, the last one after he tried to parry a nice attempt at a throw from Casse.

Only Zelim Tckaev could keep Casse from the gold and from a second overall victory in Paris. Casse was often put on the defensive in the final and had a hard time with the 24-year-old number 12 in the world.

With his back against the wall – Casse had already suffered two penalties – our compatriot still managed to score the golden score. He surprised his opponent with a quick attack that was good for ippon and gold.

With his victory, Casse gains important points for the world rankings in the race to be the 1st seed in 6 months, also in Paris, but for the Olympic Games.
