Demi Vollering can count on interest from UAE Team ADQ, the women’s team of UAE Emirates. That formation would be willing to lure Vollering away from SD Worx-Protime with an annual salary of 1 million euros. Former cyclist Marijn de Vries, also known as an analyst at Sporza, reports this in a column in the NRC newspaper.
“I heard the story from different sides in recent months,” De Vries writes. “My ears were popping. A million! The most recent amounts circulated for female cyclists at the absolute top in the world were about half of that. Perhaps what surprised me most was that no one really seemed surprised. And honestly, it doesn’t surprise me either.”
According to De Vries, Vollering’s manager did not want to confirm the news about UAE Team ADQ’s bid, but neither did he want to deny it. “I simply cannot say anything about the salaries of riders, but I don’t believe everything that is said,” he responded. Vollering still has a contract with her SD Worx-Protime team until the end of 2024.
27-year-old Demi Vollering is the queen of women’s cycling. Since 2020, she has been storming the top – working for the top team SD Worx. Last year she won the Tour de France Femmes, Strade Bianche, Dwars door Vlaanderen, the Amstel Gold Race, the Flèche Wallonne, Liège-Bastogne-Liège and the National Road Championships. She also took silver at the Cycling World Championships.
Since 2022, the wealthy UAE Emirates team has also had its own women’s team with UAE Team ADQ. The team took over the license from the then Alé BTC Ljubljana.
