The match in the Challenger Pro League between Zulte Waregem and Beveren will continue as planned tonight. With visiting fans, after new internal consultation, Waregem mayor Kurt Vanryckeghem decided to lift the ban on Beverse supporters.

Initially, the mayor, in consultation with his police services, had decided that no visiting fans of SK Beveren would be allowed in the Elindus Arena for the match against Zulte Waregem. Due to the ongoing protests by farmers, he said there were insufficient police officers available to guarantee safety.

At Beveren the decision was experienced as a form of competition distortion. The Waaslanders called on the Waregem city council and also Zulte Waregem for fair play in a press release. Beveren argued that the safety of “all fans” must be guaranteed by the security forces, including those of the home team, and even wanted the match to be postponed for that reason. But it doesn’t get to that point. The match kicks off at 8:30 PM in the Elindus Arena.
