Adnan Januzaj has criticized Victor Orta, Sevilla’s sporting director, on social media. The latter tried to push Januzaj towards the exit at the Spanish club during the winter mercato, but saw how no transfer was formalized. Orta then accused Januzaj of deliberately blocking an outgoing transfer, but according to the Belgian attacker, that claim is far from the truth.
“I am writing this letter in response to the recent statements made by Victor Orta, who has accused me with a series of completely inappropriate statements. I would like to confirm that I have never deliberately stood in the way of a transfer or refused to leave the club when a good offer was on the table. There were some offers, but I turned them down because I did not consider them suitable destinations for various reasons,” says Januzaj.
“Orta is not telling the truth and knows very well how I felt about things. Never before, in twelve years as a professional football player, have I had a problem with someone. However, I must now say that I find the words of my sporting director offensive and deeply regret them. Orta’s actions are extremely inappropriate, while I have always acted respectfully. I want nothing more than to help this club and my teammates on the field.”
Januzaj has barely played for Sevilla this season. Since the start of the season, he has only collected three hundred playing minutes. He was not in the starting line-up once in the competition.
