Adnan Januzaj has responded extensively on his social media to statements made by the technical director of FC Sevilla, his boss, who accuses the ex-Red Devil of boycotting a transfer and holding on to his lucrative contract without losing sleep over the fact whether he plays or not. Nothing more or less than open war.
With a contract until June 2026, it is a very unpleasant situation that a player and his sporting director openly clash.
Adnan Januzaj hardly plays for Sevilla, but a transfer did not happen this winter. And that is very important to Víctor Orta, Seville’s technical director. At a press meeting, Orta openly complained about Januzaj’s behavior.
“We have received offers from Turkey, France and Scotland. …but Januzaj told us that it’s not a problem for him that he doesn’t play much. Of the many proposals, we as a club have accepted two. We let him know, but he didn’t want to leave. It doesn’t matter to him whether he plays or not, he sticks to his contract and that’s it.”
Januzaj did not let it pass and responded to the statements on social media. Given the woolly language, the statement appears to have been written by his management or lawyers.
“In light of the statements made by the sporting director of Sevilla FC, Víctor Orta, in which he made some absolutely outrageous accusations against me, I emphasize that I have in no way refused to leave Sevilla FC. Above all, this situation should encourage him to introspect about his work. Yes, there were some offers, but I rejected them because, for various reasons, I felt that these were not suitable destinations,” he said.
“Víctor Orta is not telling the truth. He was aware of what I was thinking at every moment. In the eleven years of my professional career I have never had a problem and that is why I have to defend myself against the words spoken to me by the sports director of Sevilla FC. All these years, in different teams, I have shown my capabilities and I have always had deep respect for my clubs. Orta’s accusation against me, or against any footballer in the current selection, seems inappropriate and extremely painful to me. I want to show this season that I can turn the situation around. I played 300 minutes and I hope for more opportunities to help the team and my teammates.”
