Jonathan Milan missed out on yesterday’s stage due to a flat tire in the final, but was able to cheer in stage three of the Tour of Valencia. His first victory in the Lidl-Trek jersey!
“This is a very special victory for me,” Milan, who came over from Bahrain-Victorious last winter, responded in the flash interview. “It is very nice to be able to start the season this way. We also really believed in our capabilities as a team. We went to Valencia with one goal: to achieve good results. That worked out well today.”
The Lidl-Trek ensemble survived the crash two kilometers from the finish, after which Simone Consonni and Edward Theuns set up a lead out train. “In the final kilometer I was surrounded excellently. I was guided into the perfect position for the sprint and that’s how I was able to finish.”
But 23-year-old Milan is aiming for more in 2024. “It will be a very important year for me. First I have to finish this race, then the opening weekend will follow. Milan-San Remo and all the major classics are also a goal. Then I aim for the Giro d’Italia and the Olympic Games, but we will take everything step by step.”
