Royal Antwerp FC signed Eliot Matazo on Deadline Day. He comes over from Monaco and has to deal with the departure of Arthur Vermeeren.
Eliot Matazo experienced difficult times at Monaco and hopes to relaunch his career at Royal Antwerp FC. He is mentioned everywhere as the replacement for Arthur Vermeeren, but according to Olivier Deschacht, that is not entirely correct.
Deschacht was an assistant at the Young Devils until last summer and worked with the new Antwerp signing. “I think he looks more like Keita than Vermeeren, because he likes to play in the duel, but he is just very complete,” said Het Nieuwsblad.
Matazo is the type of player that Deschacht likes to see. “He is an absolute added value for the Belgian competition and if he gets opportunities, I see him going to the foreign top in a year or two. I give him credit for it, because he is also a very sweet guy, with a sharp edge.”
Deschacht also noticed the other side of Matazo. “When he was replaced during our last match at the European Championships, he was really angry. But that’s no big deal. He’s just a winner. I can see things going well in Antwerp. He is also perfectly bilingual, he will integrate quickly.”
