Helmsman Kelly Van Petegem and brakeman Jana Horemans finished seventh in the European Cup bobsleigh event in Innsbruck, Austria. It immediately earned them a European junior title.

The Belgians finished after two runs in a time of 1’48″01.

Among the juniors, Van Petegem and Horemans stayed ahead of the Austrians Lea Haslwanter and Ina Kannenberg by 13 hundredths, good for the European title. The Dutchmen Robin Prost and Jaybre Wau, who were also eligible for that competition, did not start.

The German winners – Diana Filipszki and Cynthia Kwofie – were 1’25 faster than our compatriots. They took victory in 1’46’76 from a total of seventeen duos. The competition also counted as a European championship for juniors and U23.

A final EB match is scheduled for Saturday in Innsbruck. After seven heats, Van Petegem is second in the rankings with 586 points.

On Thursday, 24-year-old Van Petegem secured the overall victory in the European Cup monobob after finishing ninth in the eighth and final round of the season.
