AA Gent had to take quite a beating in this mercato with the departure of Fofana, Orban and soon perhaps also Hugo Cuypers, who would be on his way to the American Chicago Fire. This meant that a lot of reinforcement was still needed and on the final day the Buffalos seemed to be going strong.
In recent months, Hein Vanhaezebrouck has been pushing for reinforcements in his defense and due to the outgoing transfers, fresh blood is now urgently needed in the forward line. However, there is still a lot going on in Ghent and it is possible that the trainer will get all the signings he wants.
AA Gent gets second defender…
It was previously reported that two well-known names would be on the way with Stefan Mitrovic (back from Getafe) and Mickaël Biron (RWDM), but it does not stop there. Het Nieuwsblad knows that Ghent will also attract a second defender. It would be Hugo Gambor.
That is a 21-year-old defender with roots in the Central African Republic. He comes over from the French second division club Dunkerque, where he had come into the spotlight. As a result, there was already interest from Frankfurt and Ligue 1. Moreover, Gambor was at the end of his contract, so he could perhaps be acquired for a bargain.
…and competes with Standard for second striker
In addition, Ghent is also in the market for a second striker. Sacha Tavolieri knows that the Buffaloes are also lurking for Philippe Keny. The 24-year-old Senegalese has to content himself with a role as a substitute at Basaksehir and can leave. There is also interest from FC Metz.
However, it would be Standard that currently has the best credentials for his arrival. The Rouches are said to be negotiating a loan with Basaksehir with a purchase option and Keny himself is also said to have set his sights on a transfer to Liège. He would almost have finished with Standard himself. Ghent will therefore have to act quickly in that case.
