Roos Vanotterdijk is part of the 12-member Belgian selection that will participate in the World Swimming Championships in Doha (2-18 February) in the coming weeks.

In December, Vanotterdijk did not yet know whether she would be on the starting block. The 19-year-old talent was physically and mentally cracked under the previous national coach.

Vanotterdijk is revived under Brigitte Becue. Together they decided to pick up the thread in Qatar.

“I was given time to process everything, but after 2 months I still had the feeling: I want to swim again,” Vanotterdijk says about that period.

“This World Cup is a bonus, because she can gain some international experience again,” coach Becue adds. “She has only just started again, so you cannot expect a peak. But there is a good chance that it will not be too bad.”

“She will complete a “light” program at the World Championships,” the swimming federation said. “Everything with a view to restarting the engine.”

Vanotterdijk swims the 50 meter backstroke and butterfly at the World Championships. She will also dive into the pool for the 4×100 meter medley.

For the Olympic Games in Paris, the Belgian record holder has qualified for the 100 meter back and butterfly.
