Junya Ito, who was successful at KRC Genk in the past, is being investigated by the Japanese police. The right winger is said to have been guilty of sexual aggression.

“We have received a criminal complaint against him and have opened an investigation,” the Osaka police spokesman said. Japanese media report that two women accuse Ito of sexual aggression.

“Ito sat on me”

The facts are said to have taken place in June 2023 in a hotel in Osaka. After an international match between Japan and Peru, the two women reportedly ended up in the Japanese international’s room. “When I woke up, Ito was sitting on me,” said one of the women. “The room was dark, but I could see his face. I still remember it very well.”

Ito’s lawyer denies all allegations, calling them “totally baseless.” The footballer is said to have proposed financial compensation, together with a confidentiality clause, before the complaints were filed.

The 30-year-old Ito currently plays for Reims, France, but played for KRC Genk between 2019 and 2022. He played 144 games for the Limburg top club in which he scored 29 goals and 49 assists. He is currently playing in the Asian Cup in Qatar where he will face Iran against Japan on Saturday.
