Want to enjoy watching Belgium-Azerbaijan in the comfort of your couch? None of it. While our national football team played the last game in the European Championship preliminary round on Sunday evening, ex-Red Devil Toby Alderweireld (34) was a guest at the Bocuse d’Or, an exclusive cooking competition.

The Belgian final of the Bocuse d’Or took place at Flanders Expo in Ghent on Sunday. The aim for all participating chefs was to represent Belgium at the European final.

Ultimately, it was Archibald De Prince from restaurant La Distillerie who put the crown on the job and, as the Belgian winner of the cooking competition, was allowed to advance to the European final. It will take place next year in Trondheim, Norway. The world final – subject to qualification – is scheduled for 2025 in Lyon, France.

So much for the culinary side, because Antwerp defender Toby Alderweireld was also one of the notable guests. And that during the match between Belgium and Azerbaijan. He presented his own amaretto, MM Antverpia, together with friend and associate Thomas Tisson. The ex-Red Devil can be seen on Instagram with star chef Nick Bril (The Jane).

Alderweireld has been an international player since the end of the World Cup in Qatar, the question is whether he will still be so next summer. Both he and national coach Domenico Tedesco do not completely rule out a comeback.
