Podcast In recent weeks there has been a lot going on around the cyclo-cross World Cup. UCI president David Lappartient threatened to exclude riders from the World Cup if they decided to skip a World Cup round. The UCI added free action to the word through a press release and so the men in the WielerFlits Podcast could not ignore it.

Maxim, Niels, Youri and Zeger immediately focus on that World Cup. It is now clear that the battle for the rainbow jersey does not fit in the program of either Wout van Aert or Tom Pidcock. “That’s a shame, because together with Mathieu van der Poel they carry the entire cyclo-cross responsibility,” says Maxim. “Shouldn’t you just move the World Cup from place to place on the calendar? Take it to the Christmas period, or to early January when the national championships are always on the calendar. Then you at least know that it takes place in the heart of the cross-season.”

It brings excitement to the tent. Youri certainly doesn’t like Maxim’s idea, although he also keeps a close eye on it. “I don’t think we should start doing that. You don’t do the Road World Championships all at once at the beginning of August, for example. Moreover, you never know with Wout van Aert. I can imagine it, if things suddenly went really well… He won’t be racing that weekend in which the World Cup falls. The same applies, he still attaches the World Cup to it.”
