Club Brugge won 2-0 against Lugano in the Conference League. As a result, blueblack continues one round in Europe.
The 2-0 against Lugano and the qualification for the next round of the Conference League looks great for Club Brugge, but for Georges Leekens it was a substandard performance.
“Club let Lugano play way too much football. That is a mediocre team, but if you are allowed to play football, you can always give a pass – you and I could do it too. Club was lucky to play against such a weak opponent,” Leekens is particularly harsh in Het Nieuwsblad.
According to Leekens, Blauwzwart even gave a helping hand. “In addition, there was the luck with the penalties: they were very light. If Club were to perform this way against Cercle, it would not win anyway. Impossible.”
As coach of Club Brugge, Leekens would congratulate his team on qualifying, but then dot the i’s and cross the t’s. “It has to be improved in all aspects. There was no pressure, there was no depth, Lugano was given too much freedom, it was not enough in the duels, there was also no initiative, so there were hardly any chances. People communicated too little. I could go on and on.”
