Wouter Vrancken has a wide selection at KRC Genk, so home-grown products have to wait a little longer for a chance. Yet there are already some top talents eager to follow in the footsteps of Bilal El Khannouss and co.

Just think of Konstantinos Karetsas, who has already shown great things at Jong Genk this season. Faissal Al Mazyani (18) can also count on a permanent starting position there. In recent weeks, the versatile defender apparently succeeded in convincing his bosses.

Belgium or Morocco?

Genk just announced through official channels that Al Mazyani has resigned under a new contract that links him to the vice-champion until mid-2025. “The entire club is pleased that he has opted for a longer stay,” the club website reads.

Al Mazyani came over from Waasland-Beveren in 2015. Since then, he has represented both Belgium and Morocco for the national youth teams, where he recently even wore the captain’s armband. However, the promising teenager does not seem to have made a final choice yet.

Vrancken’s chance?

Genk certainly appears to believe in Al Mazyani, although it may take a while before Wouter Vrancken gives the versatile defender a chance with the first team. With, in addition to Daniel Muñoz, also Zakaria El Ouahdi, the competition is certainly not bad at the right back, probably his best position.
