From powerhouse in films like Fast & Furious and Black Adam as a presidential candidate for the United States. For Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, it would have been possible. After a survey of 30,000 Americans in 2021, several American political parties are said to have asked the actor to participate in the presidential elections. Johnson reveals this in a podcast by Trevor Noah.

“At the end of 2022, I received visits from parties asking whether I was going to stand as a candidate,” says Johnson. “It was one after the other. They brought the poll and also showed their own research. That was to prove that I would be a contender.”

Johnson was moved by the results. “I was absolutely blown away and honored,” he says. “It felt very surreal because it was never my goal to go into politics. I actually hate a lot about politics.”

‘Presidency attractive’

Yet Johnson had already expressed his political ambitions in 2017. In an interview with Variety he called a presidential campaign in 2024 “a realistic consideration.” A year earlier, he said he found a possible governorship or presidency “attractive”.

When he saw the poll in 2021, Johnson responded very laughingly on Twitter: “I don’t think our Founding Fathers ever envisioned a 6-foot-tall, bald, tattooed, half-black, half-Samoan, tequila-drinking, pickup truck driving, fanny pack wearing man would join their group.” Although he immediately called it “an honor to serve you, the people”.

Today, the actor is no longer inclined to participate in the presidential elections. Fatherhood is his most important task, he told the American channel CBS last year. Johnson is the father of three daughters, aged 22, seven and five.

His previous career as a wrestler did not allow him to spend much time with his family and his eldest daughter Simone. “I don’t want that for my little ones now,” he repeats in Noah’s podcast. “It was one of the most important discussions I had with the political parties. They responded that others had done it the same way.”

But Johnson immediately leaves an opening in the podcast for a future bid for the presidency. “If that is ultimately what people would want, then of course I will consider it.” He does not reveal which party that will be for. Johnson calls himself “politically independent” and “centrist”. Johnson previously openly supported the candidacy of current President Joe Biden.
