Kevin De Bruyne was unable to shine this season, as an injury once again threw a spanner in the works for the captain of the Red Devils. The hamstring that ruined his Champions League final in June reoccurred in the opening match of the Premier League and is still keeping him sidelined.
De Bruyne also underwent surgery in August and is still working on his recovery. His return will not be immediate either. Our compatriot recently stated that setting a date for his return is not yet an option. In any case, he is not expected back on the field until sometime in 2024.
De Bruyne to Saudi Arabia
His recent injury woes have also raised questions about De Bruyne’s future at Manchester City in recent weeks. His contract there runs until the summer of 2025. His physical problems in combination with the fact that he will turn 33 in June, would make the English superpower doubt whether an extension is still desirable.
This immediately led to rumors about a possible transfer to Saudi Arabia, possibly even next summer. In his weekly question time The Athletic the usually very reliable transfer expert David Ornstein also addresses the theme.
Very unlikely according to Ornstein
A fan asked how likely Ornstein thinks it is that De Bruyne will move to Saudi Arabia in 2024. “Very unlikely,” was the firm response.
De Bruyne still feels very good in Manchester and does not seem to be thinking about leaving, although you can never say ‘never’ in the football world. Initially, his focus will simply be on his rehabilitation and he will probably not think about a transfer in the coming months.
