After a difficult start at Standard, Carl Hoefkens has managed to recover. However, Hoefkens is aware that there are still things that can be improved.
Standard has had mixed results recently, but has still beaten two major teams in the championship, Anderlecht and Club Brugge. “If I had been told that we would win 8 of the 12 games against Brugge, Anderlecht, Malines and Westerlo, everyone would have signed for that. But that cannot happen by just beating Brugge and Anderlecht, that is not enough. We have to to make progress,” said Carl Hoefkens during a press conference.
Hoefkens, who arrived last summer, has taken over a team that is in a period of change. He has spoken meaningful and positive words about his group of players. “This is the best group I’ve had the pleasure of working with, both in terms of the players and the coaches, in how we work together. Everyone grows together, competes together and dares to say things to each other. These are things that I really appreciate, I love It’s when players talk to each other to help each other.”
Extraordinary to be in our position
“It’s a long-term project,” he continued. “I am very satisfied with the way we are working. We have been playing together for two months now since the transfer window. It is extraordinary to be in our position, which means we have done a good job and are making small steps. We are not there yet , but I like the way we work.”
